The Place Where Rainbows Go

My poem “a Wing & a Prayer” was nominated for a Rhysling Award and was published in the 2007 Rhysling Anthology (showcasing the best science fiction, fantasy & horror poetry).

a Wing & a Prayer

If I had wings, I’d carry you

where flying geese with wings of gold

could hold your dreams in safe keeping.

If I had wings, I’d carry you

to the place where rainbows go.

We’d ride on clouds of hump back whales

and see what star fish do.

If I had wings, I’d carry you

to the land of sprites and fairies.

We’d spend all day without a care,

try on lady slippers,

wear lilacs in our hair.

Perhaps we’d learn

the world’s not so cruel

when seen through the eyes of fairies.

For fairies know

that hope survives

upon a wing and a prayer.
