My husband and I just returned from a ten day, 1400 mile journey of New Mexico and Colorado.

One of our stops was at “Kiowa Ranch” just north of Taos where D. H. Lawrence and his wife Frieda lived for a short time.  The memorial measures 12 x 15 feet.    In front of the memorial on the peak of the roof, sits a Phoenix…  Lawrence’s symbol of death and rebirth.  Frieda claimed to have mixed Lawerence’s ashes into the cement of the altar.   Inside, there is a guest book where visitors can write their sentiments.  His widow, Frieda, gave the ranch to the University of New Mexico in the 1950’s.  It is referred to as The D. H. Lawrence Ranch.   Dirt road leading to Kiowa Ranch
